SPSS («Statistical Package for
the Social Sciences», «Statistical Package for Social Sciences") -
software package for statistical data processing, one of the leaders in the field
of commercial data products. This package is widely used in social and
biological sciences. SPSS has a leading position among the programs for
statistical processing.
The first version of the system was introduced in 1968 (Norman Nye, Hedley Hull and Dale Bent), then this project is developed within the University of Chicago. The first user manual was published in 1970 (McGraw-Hill). In 1975, the project was carried out by SPSS Inc. The first version of the package for Microsoft Windows was released in 1992. In 2009 the company produced the SPSS statistical package on a rebranding, which came to be called PASW Statistics (Predictive Analytics SoftWare) (versions 17 and 18). In July 2009 the company has been incorporated into IBM; as of January 2010 a company called «SPSS: An IBM Company», and the product - "IBM SPSS Statistics" (starting with version 19).
Currently, the manufacturer sells a version of IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0. IBM SPSS Statistics - a comprehensive easy to use set of tools for working with data and analytical prediction tools, intended for users in the industrial environment, analysts and programmers who specialize in statistics.

STATISTICAL METHODS FOR PSYCHOLOGY surveys the statistical techniques commonly used in the behavioral and social sciences, especially psychology and education. To help students gain a better understanding of the specific statistical hypothesis tests that are covered throughout the text, author David Howell emphasize conceptual understanding. Along with significantly updated discussions of effect size and meta-analysis, this Eighth Edition continues to focus on two key themes that are the cornerstones of this book's success: the importance of looking at the data before beginning a hypothesis test, and the importance of knowing the relationship between the statistical test in use and the theoretical questions being asked by the experiment.

9- An Elementary Introduction to Statistical Learning Theory

Sanjeev Kulkarni, Gilbert Harman,
2011 | ISBN-10: 0470641835 | PDF | 232 pages | 3 MB
A thought-provoking look at statistical learning theory and its role in understanding human learning and inductive reasoning
A joint endeavor from leading researchers in the fields of philosophy
and electrical engineering, An Elementary Introduction to Statistical
Learning Theory is a comprehensive and accessible primer on the rapidly
evolving fields of statistical pattern recognition and statistical
learning theory. Explaining these areas at a level and in a way that is
not often found in other books on the topic, the authors present the
basic theory behind contemporary machine learning and uniquely utilize
its foundations as a framework for philosophical thinking about
inductive inference.
Promoting the fundamental goal of statistical learning, knowing what is
achievable and what is not, this book demonstrates the value of a
systematic methodology when used along with the needed techniques for
evaluating the performance of a learning system. First, an introduction
to machine learning is presented that includes brief discussions of
applications such as image recognition, speech recognition, medical
diagnostics, and statistical arbitrage. To enhance accessibility, two
chapters on relevant aspects of probability theory are provided.
Subsequent chapters feature coverage of topics such as the pattern
recognition problem, optimal Bayes decision rule, the nearest neighbor
rule, kernel rules, neural networks, support vector machines, and
boosting.
Appendices throughout the book explore the relationship between the
discussed material and related topics from mathematics, philosophy,
psychology, and statistics, drawing insightful connections between
problems in these areas and statistical learning theory. All chapters
conclude with a summary section, a set of practice questions, and a
reference sections that supplies historical notes and additional
resources for further study.
An Elementary Introduction to Statistical Learning Theory is an
excellent book for courses on statistical learning theory, pattern
recognition, and machine learning at the upper-undergraduate and
graduate levels. It also serves as an introductory reference for
researchers and practitioners in the fields of engineering, computer
science, philosophy, and cognitive science that would like to further
their knowledge of the topic.
8-Introductory Biostatistics
Link:
A course in introductory biostatistics is often required for
professional students in public health, dentistry, nursing, and
medicine, and for graduate Students in nursing and other biomedical
sciences, a requirement that is often considered a roadblock, causing
anxiety in many quarters.
This introductory text is written for professionals and
beginning graduate students in human health disciplines who need help to
pass and benefit from the basic biostatistics requirement of a one-term
course or a fullyear sequence of two courses. Our main objective is to
avoid the perception that statistics is just a series of formulas that
students need to ‘‘get over with,’’ but to present it as a way of
thinking—thinking about ways to gather and analyze data so as to benefit
from taking the required course. There is no better way to do that than
to base a book on real data, so many real data sets in various fields
are provided in the form of examples and exercises as aids to learning
how to use statistical procedures, still the nuts and bolts of
elementary applied statistics.
So.. go and enjoy!

7- Philosophy of Statistics

By Prasanta S. Bandyopadhyay, "Philosophy of Statistics"
English | 2011 | ISBN: 0444518622 | 1260 pages | PDF | 10,7 MB
Statisticians and philosophers of science have many common interests but restricted communication with each other. This volume aims to remedy these shortcomings. It provides state-of-the-art research in the area of Philosophy of Statistics by encouraging numerous experts to communicate with one another without feeling "restricted" by their disciplines or thinking "piecemeal" in their treatment of issues.
A second goal of this book is to present work in the field without bias toward any particular statistical paradigm.
Broadly speaking, the essays in this Handbook are concerned with problems of induction, statistics and probability. For centuries, foundational problems like induction have been among philosophers' favorite topics; recently, however, non-philosophers have increasingly taken a keen interest in these issues. This volume accordingly contains papers by both philosophers and non-philosophers, including scholars from nine academic disciplines.
Provides a bridge between philosophy and current scientific findings
